Vitamin E for Older Adults

The January 23, 2008 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reported on the results of a study that concluded that Vitamin E is important to older adults.

The study indicated that individuals age 65 and older with low levels of vitamin E are likely to see increased deterioration in physical function over a three-year period, when compared to those with higher levels of vitamin E.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, which protects the body against DNA and muscle damage, atherosclerosis, and degenerative neurological disorders.

In addition to supplements, vitamin E is available in high levels from almonds, tomato sauce and sunflower seeds.
